accidents at crossings.
The cameras control violations at intersections in the city of Barcelona has made to reduce accidents twice the average. Between May and October this year, accidents at controlled intersections have decreased by 22% over the same period last year, double the citywide average.
By skipping red lights, from May to September 2275 has been fined drivers, 66.28% of them drove cars. The following largest group was fined for mopeds and motorcycles, with 12.41 percent. Commercial vehicles, trucks and vans, received 9.8 percent of the fines, the 9.54 percent taxis and buses and other public service vehicles by 1.9 percent.

Violations of late afternoon are usually higher risk, since the vehicles travel faster than the rest of the day and the light is lower.
Penalties may range from 120 euro fine in mild cases to 300 euros and the withdrawal of four driver's license in more severe cases.
As explained by the Councillor for Mobility, Francesc Narváez, cameras, installed since May, are at 30 intersections considered dangerous by the large number of accidents recorded due especially to drivers who pass them in red.
